Mortgage holders who fail to pay off their mortgage loans face foreclosure. 30,000 owners of non-performing loans received an ultimatum from banks. Specifically they were issued warnings to pay up their loans or else they would receive notification of foreclosure.
Sources from Greek daily newspaper Ethnos state that already 30,000 mortgage holders have received messages, though the figure could actually be higher.
Around 10,000 loans holders who systematically find ways to avoid payments are threatened by action. It should be noted that bank data shows that only one in 10 of those who delay payments have actually showed up to arrange a settlement.
