Farmers to decide on whether they will open the roads

The representatives will discuss their demands, including withdrawal of the social security reform and tax-free fuel

Newsroom February 25 11:08

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras met with the representatives of farmers’ roadblocks at Maximos Mansion with strong police presence, while vehicles of riot police block the area close to Maximos Mansion preventing anyone from passing by.

“We continue the fight, we are ready, we are waiting for the social security law” is farmers’ message after the three-hour meeting they had with Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras at Maximos Mansion.

The meeting was asked by the Nikaia roadblock which participates with three representatives, Vangelis Mpoutas, Rizos Maroudas and K. Tzelas, members of the Coordinating Committee of Nikaia roadblocks.

Mr. Mpoutas noted that for the first time the government discussed the tax-free issue adding that they we will wait to see what the law will provide.

“We must try to find solutions through dialogue. Our concern should be for the farmers’ vast majority that is having a bad time” said Alexis Tsipras welcoming the farmers’ representatives on Thursday at the Maximos mansion.

“I do not agree with the penalisation of the farmers mobilisations and therefore the effort we do today through dialogue is in a positive direction” said Tsipras.

“Thank you for being here, I know we have disagreements, but you express your demands and concerns with an honest and sincere manner,” he added.

In fact, when Vangelis Mpoutas gave him a bottle of raki saying that “if the measures are applied, then this will be the last genuine raki, the others will be fake” Mr. Tsipras said ” sun and raki are the only things they can’t take from us”.
