Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania set new stricter border controls raising also fences to prevent immigrants from entering the country, since they worry that Baltic region will become the new entry point in Europe for refugees, while Western Balkans route remains closed.
The governments of the three countries fear that thousands of refugees will attempt to cross the borders with Russia and Belarus, especially since about 6,000 asylum seekers passed through Russia and headed to Finland and Norway last year.
Latvia and Estonia have already started building fences at their borders with Russia, while Hungary began works to construct a ditch at its border with Serbia raising also a new fence and enhancing military and police presence at its border.
