Brussels attacks cause high alert across Europe

Even US takes measures, after Brussels terror attacks

Newsroom March 22 05:09

Europe is in shut down mode, as capitals across the continent are entering high alert levels in the wake of the deadly attacks in Brussels. The French-Belgian borders have been closed while Germany and the UK have stepped up their security levels. The Dutch military is on top alert level, while most European major airports have also upped their security measures. The Belgian government has called on all citizens to remain in their houses, while the military is roaming the streets. A few hours after the Brussels attacks, the French airport Gare du Nord was evacuated after a suspect package was detected. British police said they would heighten safety measures in all major high security risk areas across the country, with more officers of London’s metropolitan police being mobilised. In France President Francois Hollande called an extraordinary cabinet meeting to assess the new developments, while security measures in Germany’s airports, train stations and border controls with Belgium, Luxembourg, France and Holland have been beefed up. Dutch PM Mark Rutte advised his citizens to avoid travels to Belgium. Police in Denmark, Sweden and Finland have reinforced security measures at airports and public spaces. The alarm has also spread across the pond, as NBC reports that stricter controls and check will be implemented in Washington, despite the lack of any intelligence of ‘credible or specific’ threats so far.
