EU-Turkey agreement on refugee not working for Greece

Tsipras has accepted this situation saying that the implementation of the EU-Turkey agreement is not easy task

Newsroom March 22 07:44

Only a few days have passed since EU and Turkey sealed the agreement on refugee and the difficulties of its implementation have already started to emerge. With Greece being officially a country where refugees and immigrants are sorted out, a shocking statement made by a European official reveals that EU has left Greece to handle the refugee issue alone.

A European official admitted to a journalist of MEGA TV channel in Brussels that “there will be several Ellis Islands in Greece”, showing that Europeans have achieved their aim to make the refugee a Greek issue and let Greece handle the crisis alone depending on Turkey. But, as it seems, Turkey has not showed any signs of wanting to stem the refugee flow since, since during the weekend 1,662 refugees arrived from Turkey to Greek islands.

In the meanwhile, Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has accepted this situation saying that the implementation of the EU-Turkey agreement is not easy task.

During a meeting with European Commissioner for Migration Dimitris Avramopoulos, he stressed the need of its immediate implementation and coordination in order to be efficient and referred to two conditions that need to be met so that the agreement is successful.

The first one concerns the reduction of flows from Turkey otherwise Greek islands will not be evacuated and the agreement will not be implemented. The second one concerns the manpower, adding that the Greek government will quickly proceed with the adaptation of the legislation, if needed, to facilitate cooperation between the Greek asylum committee and the European one.
