Experts warn that Venezuela is on the brink of economic collapse as it suffers from currency crisis caused by the fall in the global oil price and from an electricity crisis.
With no medicines and adequate food for everyone, people in Venezuela are struggling to survive.
The official exchange rate is now at a rate of 10 bolivares for $1. That means the hamburgers being sold for 1,700 Venezuelan dollars as reported by the AFP news agency will set customers back $170.
It means also that even the middle classes are struggling to afford the most basic necessities.
According to the International Monetary Fund, inflation has reached 720%, while people are forced to spend long hours queuing for basic foodstuffs in the country’s cities.
