The severe weather that struck a large part of Greece claimed two human lives, with Attica at the epicenter of the phenomena. A 56-year-old woman lost her life in Ano Glyfada after being swept away by raging waters, while another tragedy occurred in Astros Kynourias, where a 53-year-old coast guard officer was killed in the line of duty when a powerful wave struck him on the head. The intense weather conditions caused extensive flooding, transport disruptions, and hundreds of interventions by the Fire Service.

Tragedy in Ano Glyfada: Swept away on foot by the waters

According to the Hellenic Police, shortly before 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, a 56-year-old woman was swept away by raging waters on Kyrillou Methodiou Street in Ano Glyfada while walking. The woman became trapped under a vehicle and was recovered unconscious by firefighters. She was then taken by ambulance (EKAV), where her death was confirmed.

Tragedy in Astros Kynourias: 53-year-old coast guard officer dead

A tragic accident occurred in Astros Kynourias, where a 53-year-old coast guard officer, holding the rank of ensign and serving at the local Port Authority, lost his life while on duty. According to the Hellenic Coast Guard, the officer was on foot patrol at the port with the head of the department when, during the mooring of vessels, a powerful wave swept him away, causing severe head injuries. He was recovered unconscious and transported to the Health Center, where his death was confirmed.

At the top of the list is Papagou with 174 millimeters, followed by Nomismatokopio, Chalandri, Vyronas, Drosia, Ilioupoli, Marousi, and Ampelokipoi.
