Huge blast rocks building block in Exarchia, Athens (photos-video)

Motives or target a mystery

Newsroom October 13 07:32

An improvised explosive device (IED) went off at 112 Ippokratous St, in Exarchia, in downtown Athens, Wednesday, at 11.45pm causing material damage. The blast occurred in the main entrance of a building block where “Elefhteri Skeci” bookstore is located which had come under attack in 2008 with petrol bombs. Even though police have made any statements yet, they are also examining the possibility that Prosecutor Georgia Tsatsani might have been the target, as she resides in an apartment in the building. The IED had been planted in a parked car that belonged to a police officer, who was taken in to the antiterrorist unit headquarters for questioning. The lawyer of Tsatsani, Themis Sofos stated an explosion had happened at the main entrance of prosecutor’s entrance. At approximately 10.22pm an unanimous call to newspaper “Efhmerida Ton Syntakton” had warmed of the imminent explosion. No injuries were reported.
