Mitsotakis: Next government to investigate “Plan-B” allegations

Leader of ND said he would shed light on crucial period of SYRIZA-ANEL management of crisis in 2015

Newsroom October 17 08:11

Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the leader of Greece’s major opposition party, New Democracy (ND), reiterated his party’s resolve to shed light on the circumstances and conditions that lead to the capital controls being imposed on the Greek economy during the first months of SYRIZA-ANEL in power in 2015. Following the recent revelations in a book by French President Francois Hollande that Greek PM Alexis Tsipras had requested from Russian President Vladimir Putin to print drachmas in Russia, Mitsotakis, whose party saw a proposal put before parliament to examine the possible existence of the infamous “Plan-B” by the current administration to return to the drachma rejected in July, promised ND would bring the matter before a special enquiry committee in the next parliament that would probe all the details of the first six months in 2015 of the current government. Speaking to Greek-American media in the US, Mitsotakis said that the catastrophic management of the crisis in those crucial first six months, which lead to the “tragic referendum” and the signing of a third memorandum would be looked into and those responsible would be held accountable. Commenting on the book by French President on the tumultuous period, the head of Greece’s conservative party said: “I cannot know the accuracy of those claims, but what I do know is that we must find out the truth”. He went on to stress that when his party became the next government he would set up a special parliamentary committee to investigate all the allegations, in order to uncover what really had happened.
