According to the General Confederation of Greek Workers (GSEE) labour Institute, the number of longterm unemployed Greeks has been steadily hovering over the 800,000 mark for the past 15 quarterly terms. The institute’s data also showed that the real employment percentage amounted to 30.8% in the second quarter of 2016. According to the definition adopted by Eurostat, those dubbed longterm unemployed is the portion of the active population that fail to find a job for over one year. The active population includes the workforce and the unemployed. It should be noted that according to the recent data by the Greek Statistical Services, the total number of unemployed in Greece stood at 1,126,455 , while the economically non-active population was over 3 million. The aggregate of those employed in the workforce amounted to just over 3.5 million people.
