“Greek-Turkish relations are a European issue,” declared the President of the Greek Republic, Prokopis Pavlopoulos, today. “Those who think that international law is the law of the mighty are wrong. We won’t tolerate it,” he said, in response to the provocative statements made yesterday by Turkey’s President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, against Cyprus at the Turkish Foreign Ministry’s swearing-in ceremony of new officials, which was attended by Greek Foreign Affairs Minister Nikos Kotzias. “There is no Turkish republic of northern Cyprus, there is only invasion and occupation. There is no government entity,” said Mr. Pavlopoulos. “There is no doubt about it. We are not asserting ourselves, but we are not giving in, either. We support Europe, its integrity and its sovereignty.” he added. He went on to emphasize that relations between Greece and Turkey are a European issue. “It is good that the European Union realizes that when we are defending our national issues, we are also defending Europe’s,” he said.
