The Greek government called on German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schauble and the IMF to refrain from persisting on more austerity measures. The government spokesperson, Dimitris Tzanakopoulos urged both the IMF and Wolfgang Schauble to adopt a more constructive role in the talks over the Greek program during a press briefing, Tuesday. According to the Tzanakopoulos, the Greek government rejected the proposal for a 10-year 3.5% surplus target and the IMF’s demands for additional measures measures after the completion of the program for the 2-year-period 2018-2020. The spokesperson claimed the government would seek a total agreement until the end of the year arguing that inclusion of Greece in the quantitative easing scheme was both necessary and plausible.
