The new Astir will be open to guests in April 2018 after an investment of over 600 million euros by its Turkish-Arab group of investors.
The presentation of the new Astir Palace today included six thematic modules involving cultural heritage, environmental protection, tourism development, an increase in economic benefits for Astir and the area, and an increase in jobs, with full operation of the hotel complex in 2018.
“Our goal is to position Astir as a luxury destination for tourists from Europe, the Middle East and around the world,” said the investors’ representatives, adding that the project constitutes a landmark for the Greek economy given that it is a large foreign investment with new capital entering Greece to stay.
The mammoth investment project will entail a complete refurbishment of the Nausika and Arion Hotels, with over 234 rooms and 42 suites as well as lounges, hotel restaurants, a convention center, a wellness center, etc. It will also include a total of 13 living units, to be built after the demolition of the former Hotel Aphrodite, with a peninsula park consisting of green areas open to the public, a beach and a “Marina Star,” with a yacht club and facilities to match.
According to the investors’ representatives, the facilities will be completely state-of-the-art, and include the latest green technologies, including energy conservation and bioclimatic living quarters. To boot, it will include the planting of a minimum of 6,300 additional trees.
The investment project will include the construction of 56,000 square meters of building space, while 72% of Astir’s estate will be covered in protected and green areas.
