Major opposition party New Democracy (ND) leader, Kyriakos Mitsotakis called on PM Alexis Tsipras to refrain from closing the second review and binding the country to a series of new austerity measures. Mr. Mitsotakis urged the Greek PM to lead the country to elections following the negative developments at Thursday’s EuroGroup meeting. In his statement, Mr. Mitsotakis pointed out the need for a new government that would negotiate a deal with the creditors and partners. “He [Tsipras] is leaving the country exposed to grave dangers, as the threat of an exit from the Eurozone has re-emerged”, said the president of ND, while adding that such a development would lead Greek society, and most significantly the its weakest segments, to the worst nightmare.
