An Australian man has been charged with multiple counts of rape after he allegedly kidnapped and sexually assaulted a British tourist for two months in the state of Queensland. The woman, 22, was rescued during a routine police traffic stop. The police said she was visibly distressed with bruises and scratches all over her face and neck. Police checked the vehicle she was driving and found the man hiding in the back. The alleged offences took place between January and February and also included deprivation of liberty and four counts of strangulation. According to police, the pair met in Cairns at the beginning of the year and were previously in a relationship.
The young woman had not been reported missing and had very limited opportunity to escape her captor throughout her ordeal, police said.
