Authorities are expected to order the evacuation of the residents from the settlement of Zola on the island of Kefalonia after a large fire broke out Wednesday night.
According to the local Fire Department, a forestland is burning, while eight fire engines and 16 firefighters have been dispatched to the area.
The strong northeast gales are hampering efforts to extinguish the flames, which is rapidly moving towards the settlement. According to local news outlet kefaloniapress.gr, authorities are expected to instruct residents of Zola to leave their residencies.
