Forty five lawmakers from Syriza have submitted a question in parliament to Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos and Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura asking them whether a long term strategic plan has been put in place on Airbnb home rentals.
The lawmakers said that they want to protect the tourism industry and groups of the population that are encountering problems from the massive growth of short term rentals in the country.
The lawmakers raised concerns that Airbnb may be lowering the quality of living for the broader population, with many people being squeezed out of neighourhoods popular with tourists.
They pointed out that tourism in cities is picking up continually and as a result a legal framework is needed for its proper management.
