Italy accounts for a third of all cases across the continent with nearly 11,000 deaths in total.

Newsroom November 9 07:38

According to new data published by The Lancet, superbugs are killing around 33,000 people across Europe every year. The deaths come as a “direct consequence of an infection due to bacteria resistant to antibiotics”. The burden of infection is measured in the number of cases, deaths and disability-adjusted life years of the superbugs and is equivalent to that of influenza, tuberculosis and HIV/AIDs combined.
