Greek expats residing in the United Kingdom who wish to vote for the European elections will be able to exercise their right by casting their ballots in neighboring EU member states.
The UK will have no polling stations for the elections following the country’s withdrawal from the European Union.
The Greek Embassy in London issued a statement informing all those interested in voting to submit a relevant application to the consular office of London or the consulates of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Gibraltar, Leeds and Birmingham until 21 March 2019 to be included in the electoral rolls of the Greek diplomatic or consular city authorities in the EU country that they choose to complete their application.
The application can only be completed via the Ministry of Interior website (www.ypes.gr) by the interested parties and printed in three copies. The applicant will then submit the three copies at the London Consular Office or in the non-attached consulates, together with a photocopy of the identity card or the passport page in which his or her details appear.
Greek citizens residing in the United Kingdom who have already submitted their application, who may be in Greece on the day of the elections (26/5/2019), are not deprived of the right to vote in Greece, provided that they will have voted elsewhere on the previous day (ie on 25/5/2019, voting day abroad). Such an act constitutes a serious criminal offense with criminal and other sanctions.
