Coronavirus Greece – Resumption of graduated working hours and telework for public servants

The measure aims to keep overcrowding down

The Minister of Interior, Takis Theodorikakos, requested the resumption of the staggered hours schedule for Public Sector employees and telework for those belonging to the vulnerable groups from the Deputy Minister of Civil Protection, Nikos Hardalias, and the head of the Infectious Diseases Team and his representative , Professor Sotiris Tsiodras.

The communication took place on Tuesday morning after the teleconference that the minister Theodorikakos had with the presidents of ENPE (Association of Greek Regional Units) and KEDE (Association of Greek Municipalities), Apostolos Tzitzikostas and Dimitris Papastergiou, as well as with the governor of Attica, George Patoulis, from whom he asked for intensification of implementation controls measures to reduce the threat of the coronavirus spread, carried out by the Municipal Police and the Health services.

The general secretary of the Human Resources of the Public Sector of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vivi Charalambogianni, also participated in the teleconference.

Telework was implemented, where possible, during the height of the quarantine period in the public sector. Employees belonging to vulnerable groups (cancer patients, respiratory and heart problems) will work from home with teleworking during this phase, in order not to be exposed to the risk of transmitting the virus. In addition, teleworking facilitates the operation of services in conjunction with compliance with protection measures.

The the resumption of the graduated or split working hours in the State is also aimed to keep overcrowding in the offices as well as in the means of transport low . Employees will henceforth arrive at the services one hour apart, others at 7 a.m., others at 8 a.m. and others at 9 a.m.
