Mitsotakis on vaccinations: Nο privileges – We need to persuade the reluctant ones to be vaccinated

"The first steps so far are very encouraging and the economy will be able to recover quickly as we anticipate"

Newsroom June 8 02:03

At the beginning of their meeting, the President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou spoke with the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis about the evolution of the pandemic, the vaccinated and the discussion about the obligation of vaccinations concerning certain categories of workers.

“The developments on the pandemic front are positive. We have found a reduction in the number of cases, a rapid de-escalation in the number of hospitalizations, but also of our intubated fellow citizens”, said Mr. Mitsotakis initially and estimated that this de-escalation will continue in the coming weeks.

“Of course, it is sad that the vast majority of our fellow citizens who are hospitalized, who are seriously ill in our intensive care units and who unfortunately lose their lives, are our fellow citizens who are unvaccinated”, said the Prime Minister. “This is something we need to change”, he added.

He underlined that “Operation Eleftheria (Freedom)” is progressing at a very fast pace and steadily around 100,000 vaccinations per day, 1% of the population is vaccinated every day, 6,200,000 vaccinations in our country until now and more than 4 million of our fellow citizens have already received the first dose.

“But we must continue with the same intensity so that we can on the one hand build the wall of immunity but on the other hand ensure that during the summer this downward trend will continue and our tourism will continue normally”, he stated. “The first steps so far are very encouraging and the economy will be able to recover quickly as we anticipate”, said Mr. Mitsotakis.
