Foreign passenger arrivals in Greece up by 525% in November, data shows

The number of flights rose by 110.6% in the same month

Passenger traffic in Greece recorded a significant increase (+ 344.2%), while arrivals from abroad record an increase (+ 524.7%) in November 2021 compared to November 2020, according to the data of the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA).

The total statistics for the 11 months of 2021, from all airports in our country, show a rise of + 75.3% compared to the corresponding period last year, while compared to the corresponding 11 months of January / November 2019, when prohibitions and flight restrictions due to the pandemic were not in force, the drop reaches -44.8%.

The HCAA statistics of the CAA for the passenger traffic of the airports in the 11 months of January / November 2021 revealed the following:

The total number of passengers handled reached 34,029,893, showing an increase of 75.3% compared to the corresponding period of 2020 where 19,411,876 million passengers were handled. Regarding the number of flights at the country’s airports, there was also a positive sign as they amounted to 361,958 of which 151,762 were domestic and 210,196 were international, showing an increase of 48.8% compared to the corresponding period of 2020 where a total of 243,252 flights were handled.

Comparing the data with the 11 months (Jan / November) of 2019 when the flights were 502,646, this year there was a -28% drop in aircraft traffic. In the total passenger traffic that was 61,665,799 in 2019, now for the same examined 11 months, there is a decrease of -44.8%.

November 2021 statistics show a large increase in passenger arrivals by 524.7% as well as in the number of flights with a rise of 110.6%.

According to the HCAA, the figures for passenger traffic in November 2021 are positive as the statistics record a large increase. Specifically, in terms of passenger arrivals from abroad, 426,284 travellers came in November this year, while in November 2020 74,005 passengers had arrived, an increase of 524.7%.

The total number of flights (domestic and international) this year amounted to 22,771, also recording an increase of 110.6% compared to the corresponding month of 2020 when 10,810 flights were operated.

The total number of transported passengers (arrivals/departures) in November this year reached 1,972,266, showing an increase of 344.2% compared to passenger traffic in November 2020 which was 444,035.
