Government spokesman Giannis Oikonomou spoke about the new data due to the Omicron variant during the briefing on the new measures against the pandemic, where it was announced, among other things, the mandatory use of a mask everywhere from tomorrow December 24th until January 3rd.
As he said, “we will do what is required, without panic so that we can deal with the Omicron mutation” and added that those who are vaccinated will be able by following the new measures to do their shopping, visit friends, have fun.
He noted that the measures and planning of the government do not include a new lockdown.
As Mr. Economou said, we have seen a recession of the Delta mutation lately, however, Omicron is in our country.
Mr. Plevris said that according to the data, the contagion rate is very high, but we will have more in the next 10-15 days. It has therefore been deemed necessary to take action.
“We took measures very early, we started the vaccination with the booster dose at three months”, he noted and added that more than 70% of the beneficiaries have been vaccinated or have made an appointment for the third dose.
As he said, from tomorrow until January 2, specific measures will apply and the new stage from January 3. The committee said it would meet on December 27 in order to have a full decoding of the new data and if deemed necessary new measures will be taken before January 3.

Announcing the measures, Mr. Plevris said that the use of a mask is mandatory everywhere, especially for the closed spaces and transportation, the double mask or mask N95 is mandatory. This applies to both outdoor dining areas and gyms.
Especially for supermarkets and MMM it is mandatory to use a double mask or N-95 mask for higher protection.
Any events of the Municipalities for the holidays are prohibited and will be canceled. Visitors coming to Greece, even if they have PCR and should -with a strong recommendation- repeat the test on the 2nd and fourth day of their stay in our country.
