Greek MEP Eva Kaili (S&D, EL) will occupy one of the European Parliament’s Vice-Presidents posts after she was elected on Tuesday afternoon in the top 6 in the during the first round of voting with 454 ballots.

The EP  elects its 14 Vice-Presidents for the remaining two-and-a-half years of the current legislative term.

Nine Vice-Presidents were elected on the first ballot. The second ballot is scheduled for 17.30-18.15, with results announced at 19.00. Her election is expected to strengthen the Greek presence in Strasbourg and Brussels.

Her productive and intensely active presence in the European Parliament in the previous years contributed to her election. Her award, her widely supported legislative work, and the initiatives she took with the establishment of the Artificial Intelligence Centre but also her chairing of the Science and Technology Committee and the European Science and Media Center, as well as the historic agreement that was concluded with the OECD on inter-parliamentary cooperation in AI TN and the achievement of a common ethical framework for the development of applications, made her one of the most influential and popular MEPs.
