The soldiers in Serpent Island are “alive and well”, the Ukrainian Navy announced on Monday, ending the drama about their fate, after their refusal to surrender to the Russian ultimatum.
Serpent Island, the uninhabited island opposite Moldova and near the Ukrainian-Romanian border, has now fallen to the Russians.
However, the Ukrainian soldiers who were guarding it did not lose their lives.

Invasion of Ukraine: Moscow’s negotiations with Kyiv completed
Today, Monday 28 February, contrary to what was known until now, a statement from the Ukrainian Navy stated that the soldiers in Serpent Island stopped two attacks by the Russian forces, but in the end they were forced to surrender “due to lack of ammunition”.
Russian media showed images of the soldiers being transported to Sevastopol, Crimea, where they are being held.
The report also states that Russian forces have completely destroyed the island’s infrastructure: lighthouses, towers and antennas.
