Ukraine War poll – Do Greeks support Ukraine or Russia?

54% are against the decision to send Greek military equipment to Ukraine

Greeks are watching with bated breath the developments since the Russian invasion of Ukraine. According to a large survey by Interview on behalf of Politic, one in two Greeks (51%) is in favor of the Ukrainian side. 34% do not support any camp, while 15% support Russia.

The sympathy of the Greeks for the Ukrainian people is also evident, both from the fact that the sanctions imposed on Russia are approved by the majority (63%) of the respondents and from the fact that the overwhelming majority (83%) is in favour of the decision to grant a 12-month residence and work permit for refugees from Ukraine.

According to the results of the poll, the majority of Greeks (54%) do not support the sending of military equipment to the war in Ukraine, in contrast to 46%.

In fact, the majority of respondents are in favor of the neutral stance of our country. Specifically, 53% believe that the Greek interest is served through neutrality. However, those who believe that it is in Greece’s interest to side with one side prefer that this should be Ukrainian (37%), compared to 3% who say Greece should side with Russia.

As far as the nuclear threat is concerned, the majority (65%) characterises the use of nuclear weapons by Russia as an unlikely scenario, 28% find it very or quite possible and 7% do not take a position.

In terms of how Greeks judge the heads of state directly or indirectly involved in developments, French President Emanuel Macron is the one who enjoys the highest popularity (73.6%) followed by Zelensky.
