Nancy Pelosi arrived in Taiwan despite threats from China.

Shortly after 10.45pm (local time) the SPAR19 aircraft carrying the speaker of the US House of Representatives arrived at Taipei’s Songshan Airport, which is also home to a military base.

The American politician is the highest-ranking US official to visit Taiwan, which China considers a breakaway province, in the last 25 years.
