The Greek Hospital of Valoukli which serves the diaspora of Constantinople, was founded in 1753

Newsroom August 4 04:11

The Hellenic Hospital in Valoukli in Constantinople was engulfed in flames and was evacuated.

A total 104 patients and the elderly were evacuated safely.

The fire was brought under control at approximately 2:20 p.m. local time.

As reported by the media, the fire may have been caused by a problem with the hospital’s electrical system.

As announced, the fire started in the elderly care department and spread to floors of the building.

As soon as the fire was noticed the patients were carried away from the flames with any means necessary.

The patients were taken to nearby hospitals.

As he clarified, the hospital accommodated 62 elderly and 42 patients, while he committed to the renovation of the building.

The mayor of Constantinople, Ekrem Imamoglu, went on the spot. As he stated, there is a report that the fire started from the roof in the northern part.

“The fact that it had old wood parts accelerated the fire in the roof section”, he added. Imamoglu assured that there is no problem from the smoke.

The roof of the hospital, as can be seen in the pictures, has been damaged.
