The French Foreign Minister, Catherine Colonna, sent a stern message to Turkey shortly ahead of her meeting with her Greek counterpart, Nikos Dendias, in the shadow of provocative rhetoric and actions on the ground from Ankara. “France is always clear and in solidarity whenever Greek sovereignty is disputed and this is never going to change,” stated Mrs. Colonna when asked about the messages she wants to send to the Turkish side.
“On some issues, the Turkish attitude raises questions and it is normal and useful with an allied and neighbouring country to maintain a channel of communication so that everything can be discussed,” added the French foreign minister.
Mrs. Colonna also commented on Turkey’s stance on immigration, stressing that “we have to deal with the phenomenon of countries, such as Belarus and Turkey, which attempt to instrumentalise migration flows as a means of destabilizing the European Union.”
