Germany to buy 35 F-35 fighter jets and 60 helicopters

The planes will cost 8 billion euros, while the helicopters will cost 4 billion

The German armed forces will acquire 35 new fighter planes and 60 helicopters, BILD newspaper reports, citing a confidential Defence Ministry document.

According to the newspaper, the Bundeswehr will acquire 35 F-35 fighter jets from Lockheed Martin and 60 Chinook transport helicopters from Boeing. The planes will cost 8 billion euros, while the helicopters will cost 4 billion. Ministry officials are already in the US for the orders which need the approval of the Federal Parliament before the deal moves forward as they cost more than 25 million euros.
