The Libyan Parliament rejects the agreement with Turkey

It is recalled that the Libyan Parliament, the only elected body in the country, has withdrawn its confidence from the government

A few hours after Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu announced that a memorandum of understanding had been signed with Libya, under which surveys could begin in the latter’s EEZ, the Libyan parliament rejected the agreement with Ankara and the government, calling it illegal.

As reported by The Libya Update, “the Libyan parliament rejects the hydrocarbons agreement signed today between Turkey and the Government of National Unity”.

This agreement is rejected by the parliament as “illegal” as it does not have the approval of the Libyan legislature, i.e. the Parliament.

As the Parliament also made clear “the agreement on hydrocarbons removes from the eastern region of Cyrenaica the right to oil”

It is recalled that the Libyan Parliament, the only elected body in the country, has withdrawn its confidence from the government of Abdulhamid Dbeiba and consequently does not recognize any of his actions.
