A sequence of strong earthquakes was recorded in the region of Evia that were felt in Attica about 50 minutes after the initial 4.8 Richter that struck at 6:32.
According to the geodynamic institute, the first earthquake occurred at 7:23 am and had a magnitude of 4.1 Richter while it was followed with a difference of 1 minute by a second tremor measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale at 7:24.
The first earthquake occurred shortly after 6:30 on Tuesday morning and was felt in Attica. According to the Geodynamic Institute, the earthquake measured 4.8 Richter and was centered in Evia.
The initial recording system issued seconds after another tremor measuring at 4.7 on the Richter scale.
The earthquake occurred at 6:32 and was centered 9 km southeast of the Zarakes area.
A few minutes after the 4.8 Richter earthquake, another 3.2 Richter earthquake centered in the same area followed.
As the seismologist, Gerasimos Papadopoulos explained in the area where Tuesday’s earthquake occurred, “we have had smaller tremors in the past.”
“It is obvious that the region is under seismic stimulation. Attention is needed in this area. It needs a very good evaluation” he added speaking to ANT1.
According to him, it was a surface earthquake “and all the seismic sequences in this area are such earthquakes”
The mayor of Karystos Lefteris Raviolos who spoke to protothema.gr said that there is no information about damages in the area due to the earthquake.
At 7:56 a new 3.7 Richter earthquake centered in the same area as the 4.8 Richter earthquake that was also felt in areas of Attica.
