A powerful earthquake, 4.9 Richter, occurred in Evia and was felt in Attica. A small aftershock of 2.4 on the Richter scale followed.

According to the revised measurement of the Geodynamic Institute, the focal depth of the 4.9 Richter earthquake is 13.2 km while the epicentre is 5 km east southeast of Psachni Evia.

The Euro Mediterranean Institute measured the earthquake at 5.1 Richter and the focal depth at 2 km.

There are currently no reports of damage or other problems, but residents rushed to the streets due to the strong shaking.

“We are in central Evia, where the outbreak is different from the one that was activated last month. In Psachna Evia. It is at 4.9 Richter” were the first statements of seismologist Gerasimos Papadopoulos to SKAI.

“The epicentre is known to us but it is not the same focus point as South Evia” he clarified.
