It is taking place in Nea Philadelphia

Newsroom March 17 12:16

The body of  Greek footballer Mimis Papaioannou lay in state as relatives, friends, and fans of AEK are paying their final “tribute” to the legendary player who passed away on Wednesday at the age of 81. Mimi Papaioannou’s funeral will be held at 2 pm in the Holy Church of the Holy Trinity, opposite the OPAP ARENA in the suburb of New Philadelphia. The funeral procession will be officiated by the Metropolitan of Nea Ionia, Philadelphia, Heraklion, and Chalkidon Gabriel.

The body of the great Greek footballer, who was close to playing for Spanish giants Real Madrid in his heyday, has been placed on a popular pilgrimage since 9 in the morning. The wreaths that are in the Holy Church of the Holy Trinity are from Dimitris Melissanidis, Dusan Bajevic of PAE AEK, friends of the great footballer, but also associations of friends of the Union. Stefani has also been sent by Panathinaikos, Olympiakos, Vangelis Marinakis, PAOK, and the Mayor of Athens Kostas Bakoyannis.
