The Greek Ministry of the Interior is planning a new extension of a few hours for Greek expatriates to register and cast their ballots in the upcoming national elections, after the first extension that was given for 12 noon today, Holy Tuesday, as expatriates are showing a great interest in voting for the first time.
Based on the original circular, the applications would have closed on Monday night at 23:59, but authorities decided to provide an extension for today at noon at 12:00, while the great interest brings the new extension.
According to information of protothema.gr from sources inside the Ministry of the Interior, as of yesterday, Holy Monday, 27,579 applications for voting from abroad had been submitted, 19,887 had been approved, and 4,680 were rejected. 3,012 applications were still being processed.
It is also interesting that there will be sections in Lithuania, Vilnius, and Kaunas, where the F-4 of the Euroleague takes place, where it is not considered improbable that Olympiacos will qualify. The semi-final will take place on the 19th and the final on the 21st of the month. By the end of March, 4 applications for voting had been approved for the Kaunas section and 40 people would have to be registered in order to have a section. Given, however, that yesterday the existence of a relevant section was leaked via protothema.gr, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications are waiting to see if there has been an increased interest from Olympiakos fans, who will also want to vote if their team qualifies from Lithuania where the Euroleague final 4 will take place.
