The investigator of the Qatargate case, Michel Clez, resigned after Eva Kaili’s letter.
Earlier today, Eva Kaili appealed to the European Parliament for a violation of her immunity. Through her defense lawyers, she maintains that she was being under surveillance by secret services of Arab countries. In a new, joint statement, Eva Kaili’s lawyers, Sven Marie and Michalis Dimitrakopoulos, emphasize that “Eva Kaili was monitored during the period she participated in the Pega committee” (the committee of the European Parliament that investigates phone surveillance cases).
As the Brussels Federal Prosecutor’s Office reports, new evidence has recently come to light in the Qatargate case file. “They could raise some questions about the objective conduct of the research”.

And adds: “For precautionary reasons and in order for Justice to continue its work and to maintain the necessary separation between private and family life and professional obligations, investigator Michel Clez has informed us that he has decided to withdraw from the case.”
