Antonio Conte may be looking on at Tottenham with some envy at the impact Destiny Udogie has had since officially joining the club this summer, despite the full-back being signed by Spurs 12 months ago. The feel-good factor is back at Tottenham for the first time in a few years with Ange Postecoglou bringing a breath of fresh air to Spurs.
His attack-minded style of play has transformed a Tottenham side that last year looked devoid of any confidence going forward under Conte. The Italian, who has made a career out of building rigid defensive units, failed to emulate that success in north London.
Cristian Romero proved to be an astute piece of business and the Argentine is seen as the heart of Tottenham’s defensive unit now. Postecoglou has the centre-back firing on all cylinders with Romero cutting out some of the rash decision-making from last year.
But it’s in the full-back area where Conte was unable to get exactly what he wanted. Pedro Porro, Ivan Perisic, Emerson Royal, Ben Davies, Sergio Reguilon, Matt Doherty and Ryan Sessegnon were all use in the attacking wing-back roles under Conte as he struggled to find a winning formula.
