The latest storm system called “Elias” made landfall in the early hours of Monday affecting Western Macedonia with rain and sporadic storms, while, according to a severe weather warning issued by the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (HNMS), the extreme phenomena will impact several regions of the country until Thursday.
The regions forecast to bear the brunt of the storm on Monday are mainly in the western, central, and southern parts of the country where heavy rain and storms will be significantly intense in the afternoon, with local hailstorms also precited.
The areas expected to receive the largest volumes of water are Thessaly (mainly the counties of Trikala and Karditsa), Central Sterea (counties of Evritania, Fokida, and Fthiotida) and Northern Peloponnese (mainly the counties of Achaia and Corinthia).
In five regions, meteorologists predict that the bad weather Elias will “hit” today, Monday, which is expected to remain in our country until Thursday.
From early morning it is raining in areas of northern and northwestern Greece with ERT’s meteorologist, Ermioni Katirtzoglou, noting that special attention should be paid in the coming hours in Karditsa, Thessaly, Boeotia, Fthiotida, and western Sterea.
In Attica, meteorological data show that today there will be thunderstorms mainly in the west and north of the prefecture from noon onwards.
