Switzerland: 32-year-old Iranian man held train passengers hostage for 4 hours – Police killed him

Hostage-taking situations are rare in Switzerland, but they have happened in the past in banks and businesses.

Police intervention ended after four hours the hostage-taking by a 32-year-old Iranian man who was holding 15 train passengers hostage between Bolzano and Yverdon-le-Bain, Switzerland.

Police say the 32-year-old, who was wielding an axe and a knife, was shot dead by police.

“The hostages have all been released unharmed,” police in the canton of Vauxhall said in a statement on Friday.

“The man holding hostages was fatally wounded during the operation,” the statement added.

The 32-year-old Iranian man had reportedly filed an asylum application in Switzerland.
