Non-state universities: The bill passes with 159 “yes”

129 opposition MPs voted against, 11 "present" - 299 voted in total

Newsroom March 9 12:56

The bill of the Ministry of Education for the creation of an institutional framework for the operation of branches of international non-state non-profit universities in Greece was approved by a majority.

On the principle of the draft law and on the articles that introduce for the first time procedures and conditions for licensing and establishment of branches of non-state universities, 159 MPs from New Democracy voted in favor while 129 MPs from the opposition and 11 present voted against.

PASOK, after successive shifts and back-and-forths, finally refused to support the bill, while SYRIZA and all the opposition parties voted against.

Several articles on public universities though passed with a wide majority of over 180 votes.
