Most municipalities of Attica will keep the tradition today and will… honor the celebration of Easter Monday with Lenten dishes, music and dance.
A series of events have been planned, since the weather is not predicted to be rainy, although some have made sure to announce alternatives, namely the indoor venues where the feast will be moved, in case the weather breaks.
The cauldrons and ovens in the municipal offices are working at full capacity, preparing everything from bean soup and seafood, to dolmades, taramosalata, halva and of course the traditional lagana.
The open-air “table” set up by the municipalities, inside and outside the basin, will be waiting for the citizens to enjoy the day and for the children to fly their kites high. Some municipalities will offer the kite free of charge to young citizens, while others have organised kite-making workshops.
The traditional focus for Athenians on this day is the Philopappou Hill, which will be visited by Mayor Harris Doukas.
The municipality of Peristeri promises the largest lagana, as the Bakery Guild prepares a lagana with dimensions of 3 meters wide and 4 meters long! As they announced, the recipe will use 200 kilos of four varieties of flour, 50 kilos of assorted sesame seeds, 20 liters of sesame oil, 15 kilos of tahini, salt, sugar and yeast.
The celebration will take place at the Peristeri Exhibition Centre (11 a.m.) and will include a traditional feast with Yannis Kapsalis and Makis Tsiko, while children will be entertained with face painting, mini kite making, puppetry and Karagiozis by the Kostas Spyropoulos shadow theatre.

“Petroculuma” will be celebrated by the municipality of Petroupolis at Agios Dimitrios Square (11 am) with the band of Michalis Michopoulos and activities for children from 3 to 11 years old.
The municipality of Egaleo has planned its own events at the “Barutadiko” of the city’s grove (10 am) with folk, rebetika and traditional songs by city artists and local dance groups of Cultural Associations.
The municipality of Agia Varvara will celebrate it at the Mother’s Grove (11 am) with folk and traditional songs, the municipality of Haidario at Dafni (12 pm) with the traditional music band of Bampi Pournaras.
The municipality of Kalithea will celebrate with Konstantina and Nasia Konitopoulou and the municipality of Moschatos-Tavros at the National Resistance Square (11 a.m.) with a concert by Grigoris Bithikotsis.
For yet another year, the municipality of Alimos will welcome Lent at Pani Hill (11 am) with the traditional orchestra “Tasoula Thodoris” and the municipality of Agios Dimitrios at Asyrmatos (10:30 am) with dances and songs by the “Traditional Company” of Yannis Pavlopoulos.
