Hatzidakis: Legislative intervention to reduce bank charges from POS terminals by 50%

The reduction applies to amounts up to 10 euros - Legislative regulation to be submitted within the week

Minister of Economy and Finance, Kostis Hatzidakis, announced on SKAI TV a legislative amendment that will reduce POS bank charges by 50%. The related amendment is expected to be submitted to Parliament this week or at the latest next week.

Mr. Hatzidakis stated, charges for small amounts are high, and following discussions, it was decided to introduce a legislative regulation that will reduce charges by 50% for amounts up to 10 euros.

The minister noted that businesses conducting transactions under €10, such as kiosks and taxis have been protesting the charges. A discussion had started regarding reducing fees which were delayed due to the divergence of the agreed charges, he noted.

Mr. Hatzidakis added that efforts would be made to submit the relevant amendment within the week. He further stated that the platform for tax declarations will open within the week and clarified that there will be no extension after July 31 which is the deadline.

The minister also clarified there will be no extension for POS – cashier connection adding that a circular will be issued on May 2.

He further mentioned that the tax office has began to notify the 25,000 tax payers who have not scheduled appointments with fines already imposed.
