A preparedness exercise for the organized preventive evacuation of visitors due to a forest fire was conducted yesterday at the Archaeological Site of Delphi, in the presence of the Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni, and the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Vassilis Kikilias.
The exercise was conducted as part of the cooperation memorandum between the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection. This civil protection exercise aimed to test, train, and evaluate the operational readiness and coordination of agencies in emergencies.
The Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Vassilis Kikilias expressed gratitude to all participants and emphasized the importance of preparedness for protecting cultural heritage. He stressed the need for prevention and cooperation to avoid forced evacuations.

The Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni highlighted the exercise’s role in preparing for fire emergencies at archaeological sites, following Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’s directives for close coordination. She noted the importance of systematic prevention and preparation in managing climate change impacts on heritage.
The exercise simulated a forest fire threatening the Delphi archaeological site, involving staff from the Ministry of Culture, Fire Brigade, Hellenic Police, National Center for Immediate Assistance (EKAB), Delphi Municipality, and volunteer groups.
