The friend of the 59-year-old missing tourist who was holidaying with him on Amorgos has told Live News how a leisure trip turned into a nightmare. “‘I’ve arrived, I’m here, call me when you arrive’. I sent him the location. He never called me,” says the friend of the 59-year-old missing tourist who was vacationing together on Amorgos.
“We were staying in Aegiali, we were on holiday, two days and then we were coming to stay in Katapola and he decided he wanted to do it on foot, the route. He goes, he makes routes. He likes it. I can’t,” he added. And so, on Tuesday morning (11/6), the officer’s friend set off in his car while the 59-year-old retiree who loved hiking took the trail he was driving to Katapola.
“Getting lost is a bit difficult, it comes 10 years, he has walked all of Amorgos. Or somewhere he felt like going to take a picture, he said ‘here’s a nice rock, I’ll go up and take a picture’ and he slipped and fell and he’s a bit far from the trail but where can you find him? Or he got a sunstroke so to speak, lost it and started wandering,” the missing man’s friend added to Live News.
His last conversation with his partner
Live News first featured the last conversation the 59-year-old had with his partner before his trail went cold. At 7.07am – local time – he made a video call to his partner who was in Los Angeles.
Then at 7.20am he sent her a photo of the sign of the trail he had chosen to hike with the equally experienced hiker replying excitedly, “I’m so excited! I can’t wait to get out there and hike with you.”
It was also the last time the 59-year-old Albert contacted his family. His partner who was also planning to go to Amorgos on the 19th began looking for him – as best she could – from the other side of the world.
“You may have seen it on the news, we are looking for my partner. He went hiking yesterday around 7am. He started from Aegiali in the direction of Katapola. He is still missing. If you know anything, please send me a message,” she wrote in a post.
Everyone speaks of a kind-hearted man, very active and athletic who loved hiking.
