“I was monitoring the temperature in Athens last night, for example at our station in Gazi, at midnight 18-19 June the temperature was 30 degrees,” writes the Director of Research at the National Observatory of Athens in his post Kostas Lagovardos.
The head of the meteo website in his Facebook post about the weather, noted that “for 8 days the maximum temperature was 5 degrees or more above normal”.
“Unfortunately, no significant change is expected in the coming days,” the well-known meteorologist added.
The details of his post:
“A warm Athens…
I was monitoring the temperature in Athens last night, indicatively at our station in Gazi, at midnight 18-19 June the temperature was 30 degrees!
I should remind you here that the average maximum June temperature in Gazi is 30.5 degrees, that is, the temperature yesterday at midnight was the same as the normal maximum for the day!
Looking at the records from early June, two quick observations:
1) except for June 1, the maximum values in Gazi were higher than the 30.5 degree value (the normal value, as noted above)
2) For 8 days the maximum temperature was 5 degrees or more higher than the normal value, even reaching 40.7 degrees on June 13!
Unfortunately, no significant change is expected in the next few days, we are heading towards one of the hottest June in our meteorological history (both in Athens and in most of the country). We will come back at the end of the month…“.
