According to Variety, the news was made public by CAA, the agency that represented him. No cause of death has been released.

Kiefer Sutherland, an actor and son of the late actor, wrote on social media, “It is with a heavy heart that I announce that my father, Donald Sutherland, has passed away. I personally believe he was one of the most important actors in the history of cinema. He was never overwhelmed by a role, good, bad or ugly. He loved what he did and did what he loved, and no one can ask for more than that. A life well lived.”

For more than half a century, the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning actor has been known for his multifaceted roles, playing both evil and benign characters with ease.

The legendary actor is known for his appearances in acclaimed films such as “All 12 Were Bastards,” “MASH,” “Klute” and “Don’t Look Now.” He also had a featured role in the “Hunger Games” film series as the… villain of the piece.

With a heavy heart, I tell you that my father, Donald Sutherland, has passed away. I personally think one of the most important actors in the history of film.
