Kasselakis calls on MPs and executives for emergency aid to tackle party media debts from June

SYRIZA's financial department urges MPs and officials to donate or secure loans to settle party media debts

Newsroom June 27 02:08

SRIZA’s president, Stefanos Kasselakis, is urgently requesting an extraordinary contribution from MEPs, MPs, and all Central Committee members to cover the expenses of the party’s media outlets.

Following the cessation of the daily edition of “Avgi,” the financial department of SYRIZA PS sent a letter late last night to the party’s MPs, urging them to either make a donation or take out a loan to cover the expenses for June for both “Avgi” and the “Sto Kokkino” radio station. Today, a similar email was sent to all Central Committee members.

Leading by example, Stefanos Kasselakis donated the maximum allowed amount of 20,000 euros yesterday. He also called on SYRIZA PS executives to contribute to resolving the financial issue.

The message to MPs reads as follows:

“Comrades,

The financial difficulties faced by our party require the maximum possible financial contribution from all of us. We ask you to assist either with a donation or by taking out a loan to cover the June obligations for the party’s media, totaling 375,146 euros.”

Given that this is not the first time MPs and party officials have supported the party media financially—as they did during Alexis Tsipras’s tenure—it is likely that many MPs will respond positively to Mr. Kasselakis’s request. Additionally, as part of expense rationalization efforts, there might be a request for a complete list of expenses from the MPs to gain full insight into current expenditures, both at the supplier and personnel levels.
