The battle is on for another day with flames firefighters and volunteers, with the effort being concentrated – mainly – in Kos and Chios where the fire continues its destructive work, while without an active front are the fires in Monemvasia and Gortyna in Crete.
The fire in Kos is ongoing with air forces reinforced and six aircraft and three helicopters operating, along with ground forces of 26 firefighters with 8 vehicles. There is also assistance from volunteers, project machinery and OTA water trucks while they have been reinforced with forces from Athens and Rhodes. In addition, they are travelling by ferry from Lesvos. According to kosnews24.gr, the points where the flames are burning are dispersed. Also, as the local medium points out, following the message from 112 that was sent, those tourists and residents who are in Kardamena and do not have a vehicle can board buses to be evacuated.

The fire in Hio broke out this morning in woodland in the Ironwood area. Ground and air forces were immediately mobilized. According to information, 89 firefighters with 15 vehicles, five aircraft and two helicopters are operating, while assistance is provided by hydrofoils. According to alithia.gr, is such a fire load, that at two in the afternoon, the cloud of smoke, was visible in the town of Chios. Also, three firefighters were taken to the hospital with burns while an elderly man from whose field it is suspected that the fire started is being sought.

The fire in the Municipality of Gortys
The fire that broke out early Monday (1/7) afternoon in an area of the Municipality of Gortyna, near Agioi Deca, is in remission. From the very first moment, strong forces of the Fire Service participated in the operation from land and air, as well as technical means and water trucks of the Region of Crete and the Municipality. At the moment there is no active front, however strong forces are still remaining and operating at the site, which is located near the Archaeological site of Gortyna.
In fact, according to the appointed regional consultant for Civil Protection Issues of the Region of Crete in Heraklion, Yannis Leontarakis the risk of the flames to reach the Archaeological site was visible, but the immediate mobilization and the decisive,as stressed, the contribution of airborne means that made drops, eliminated any possibility. In addition, there was an extremely urgent alert via 112 to the residents of the area, to be on alert and follow the instructions of the authorities.
Fire in Katofigi, Crete
Also, a fire broke out at noon on Monday (1/1) near the village of Katofigi in the municipality of Viannou in Crete.

51 agroforestry fires have occurred in the last 24 hours. 44 of those were immediately responded to and firefighters are currently treating 8 more fires.
Without an active front are the fires in Distomo of Boeotia, Zakynthos, Heraklion of Crete and Agios Elissaios of Laconia.
In the fire that broke out this morning in the area of Portes Antimachia in Kos, the picture is improved, but with several active outbreaks still difficult to deal with.
At least 68 firefighters with 6 forestry teams, including 32 firefighters flown in from Athens, 9 vehicles, 6 aircraft and 2 helicopters.
The forces on the island will be further reinforced with 15 firefighters and 2 vehicles arriving by ferry from Rhodes.
142 firefighters with 8 forestry teams, including 30 firefighters flown in from Athens, 21 vehicles, 7 aircraft and 3 helicopters including 1 for coordination are operating on the Chios fire.
The forces will be reinforced in the coming hours with 66 firefighters and 12 vehicles arriving by ferry from Lesvos and Athens.
The situation remains difficult in Chios, and great efforts will continue to be made by all the island’s Civil Protection forces to contain the situation.
During the extinguishing operation, 2 firefighters were fortunately slightly injured.
A few minutes ago a new fire broke out in the area of Katafigi Heraklion Crete and a message was issued by 112 to inform the residents of the area.
