Sbokos, who had been battling a serious illness in recent years, died last night in the Intensive Care Unit of Heraklion University Hospital. He was widely regarded as an innovative employer and a key player in advancing Crete’s tourism sector. Additionally, he served as a municipal councilor in Heraklion under Manolis Karellis and as president of DEVAH during Kostas Klironomos’s mayoral term.

He is survived by his wife, Eleni Kaparounaki, and their two daughters, Agapi (married to Kostantinos Zompanakis) and Kostantza (married to Achilleas Konstantakopoulos), who continue his legacy in the tourism industry.

The Heraklion Hotel Association praised Sbokos as one of the most important Cretan hoteliers who greatly contributed to the development of quality tourism on the island. They highlighted his dedication and consistent service to the industry, noting that his presence was a guiding light for future generations.

Haris Mamoulakis, Head of Infrastructure & Transport of SYRIZA and Member of Parliament for Heraklion, described Sbokos as a visionary with an indelible legacy. He acknowledged Sbokos’s commendable career in the competitive tourism sector and his unwavering commitment to environmental, social, and human values. Mamoulakis extended his heartfelt condolences to Sbokos’s family.
