Robert Fico, the Prime Minister of Slovakia, made his first public appearance tonight since the assassination attempt on him in May. Speaking at an event for the Day of Saints Cyril and Methodius, a public holiday in Slovakia, Fico addressed the audience while still recovering from his injuries.
Fico was shot four times at close range in mid-May while greeting supporters in the town of Handlová. After undergoing a lengthy surgery, he has been recovering at home since late May.
Fico, who returned to the prime ministership following his election victory last September, spoke at the event despite his ongoing recovery. The assailant, a 71-year-old man, was apprehended and is facing charges of attempted premeditated murder and terrorist attack.
